It's been a long time in the making, but a solo Deadpool movie is actually happening. Let’s go over the facts:
- Tim Miller is directing. Miller helped found the visual effects house Blur Studios, the team that created the test footage that famously leaked a few months ago (more on that below).
- The screenplay is by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the duo behind Zombieland and GI Joe: Retaliation.
- It will be produced by 20th Century Fox.
- Ryan Reynolds will reprise his role as Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool. He first appeared as the character back in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

- In case you live and get your movie news, here’s that test footage from a few months ago featuring Ryan Reynolds.
- This footage was actually made back in 2012 but finally caught on this year. It was leaked by Blur Studio, the visual effects company that created it, around this year's Comic-Con.

- Speaking to the Niagra Falls Review, Reynolds recently commented on the power of social media and the internet in reviving the interest in Deadpool:
“The movie has been in a state of limbo for a while. There was such an overpowering reaction to the footage, you sort of feel like, 'Oh, so we weren't crazy for our reasons for loving this character, for loving this role.' It's interesting to see the power of the Internet. It's awe-inspiring, actually.”
- Deadpool's go-ahead is a testament to the power of fans and the voice they have through the internet. A huge studio is behind the entire production, and any major decision is up to them. But this movie will still have a grassroots-sort of feel to it. If it weren't the momentum created by our reaction to the test footage, and our love for the character, they wouldn't have gone anywhere near Wade Wilson again.
- While we don’t know what rating the film will have, it’s possible the foul-mouthed, lovably violent hero may be boxed into a PG-13. Deadpool co-creator Tweeted this shortly after the test footage leaked (but before the film was officially greenlit).
"So much mis-information from the mis-informed in regards to Deadpool film. The version under review is a PG-13 version, not an R...."
- Finally, we can expect Deadpool to arrive in theaters February 12, 2016.
