RoboCup 2014: The World Cup for Robots

It's on.

Many of us in the nerd world spent most of the World Cup hating on soccer, hating on sports in general, following the Quidditch world cup instead, or (let's be real) partying with the soccer fans anyway cause you know nerds can get down. #ComicCon.

But did you know there's a real-life World Cup just for us? It's called the RoboCup, it's in Brazil, and it's literally the World Cup for robots. It only lasts two days, but it's going on right now! Check out the overview video below:

There are a few different leagues depending on robot size and ability, so it ranges from little blobs that can play with a golf ball to actual human-style robots. We're sure the games aren't quite as exciting to watch (example: that goal at 0:21 in the video) but it's got to be amazing to be a part of if you're into robotics. It's for sure about the competition but it's also about behind-the-scenes collaboration, which we think makes for a great mix. And we're also really, really into the robots that can dance.

So how long will it be until we have Robolympics? Robot figure skating, please get at us right this instant.

What do you think of the RoboCup? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @DweebCast. We'll see ya next time!
