We first covered the best of Tokyo Game Show in our Part 1 blog. After watching the insane action and huge scale of those trailers, scroll down here to see the rest of TGS' games that are now at the top of our watch list.
Final Fantasy XV - release: TBA
We covered Final Fantasy XV’s gameplay trailer in our first TGS post, and now we have an extended gameplay trailer. It’s a lot of standing around and rotating camerawork, but it shows off the textures and rain effects nicely, as well as a fairly large metropolitan plaza area.
We may be able to play the game sooner than later. A code good for a Final Fantasy XV demo will be included with every copy of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD, though when the code will become redeemable is still up in the air.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain - 2015
As expected, The Phantom Pain was on full display at TGS. The trailer shows Snake’s accomplice “Quiet” and her affinity for stealth. Konami also showed off a lengthy gameplay demo that takes place in an overgrown jungle area. It's reminiscent of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, but even more heavily-patrolled. Gone is the camouflage percentage that tells the player how hidden Snake is. Looks like the final game will presenta challenging, hyper-realistic environment that looks less like a video game and more like National Geographic.
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate - early 2015
A big trend among the show’s most popular titles was monster-slaying. Fans of boss-heavy RPGs have a lot to look forward to with Bloodborne and Deep Down. Even Final Fantasy XV showed off a boss so comically large, it can only be described as a mountain with horns. 3DS gamers will hardly be left out as Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be out early next year. Expect gigantic, colorful enemies and the ability to team up with friends online.
Zodiac- 2015
Zodiac was a surprise announcement at TGS. It’s an online mobile JRPG for Vita and iOS, which alone is enough to warrant interest. But what makes it note-worthy is that it’s developed by composer Hitoshi Sakimoto and writer Kazushige Nojima, both of whom have worked on the most seminal titles in the Final Fantasy series. So far we know it’s a 2D turn-based RPG, it’s influenced by the astrological signs, and it’s gorgeous.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse - 2015
Hot on the heels of Battle of Z, the last game in the Dragon Ball fighting game series, Xenoverse will be out early next year. Along with updated graphics, seizure-inducing colors, and more screaming, it also includes a new feature: the highly-requested create-a-character mode.
D4 - out now
From the creator of Deadly Premonition, D4 (aka Dark Dreams Don’t Die) is a Xbox One-exclusive adventure game from Hidetaka “Swery65” Suehiro. Its unexpected release on Friday was announced at TGS.
Yakuza Zero - Spring 2015 in Japan, no annouced NA release
The fifth game in the series has not yet been released in North America, so who knows if we’ll ever see this game stateside. But the trailer's still an awesome look at the crime world/soap opera that is Yakuza.
Final Fantasy Explorers - December 18th in Japan, no NA release
Nintendo’s handhelds have had an ongoing relationship with Final Fantasy spin-offs since the original Game Boy. Final Fantasy Explorers continues the tradition of more light-hearted, casual FF games but utilizing the 3DS’ capabilities. The demo at TGS shows off the action-RPG’s 3D graphics and online multiplayer.
