A middle-aged rock journalist who is a bit unsatisfied with her life is assigned a story about her missing ex boyfriend/musician. The plot is relatively simple but good writing, a great cast (Toni Collette, Thomas Hayden Church, Oliver Platt) and excellent acting are enough to make this a quality product. This film is a pleasure from start to finish. It feels adult and it's easy to relate to, but different enough from your own life that it’s entertaining and interesting. The music is great and there is a tiny little 5-minute surprise treat at the end that gives the movie a spark.

Grandma will enjoy it. Kids might find the themes too “old” (as in boring) but I’d say make them watch it anyway.
