The kids in this movie are not alright...

Palo Alto, Gia Coppola 2014

The kids in this movie are not all right.  Emma Roberts plays the virgin who flirts with her coach, there’s the slutty best friend, a stoner boy and a wildcard. Wait, is it The Breakfast Club? I wish.  I don’t get this movie. I had high expectations because I had read a lot about Gia Coppola being the next wunderkind, coming from a family of cinema royalty after all, but the movie failed me...or I failed to get it.  There are some beautiful shots and a couple of interesting ideas, but ultimately it was flat and unmemorable.  There is a lot of tense build up with very little payoff.

I am a huge James Franco fan - he’s always interesting to watch and the same is true here, and the other acting is pretty good, but, c’mon, how hard is it to watch hot high school girls on screen for an hour and a half?

Grandma seriously will be like, huh? And it’s a bit dark for kids. Unless they are teenagers, then it’s a stylized version of their own life.
