Venus In Fur, 2014 Roman Polanski
By Ali Tenenbaum
We watch as an actress auditions for a role. Could be drab, boring and useless but Polanski is a master and this gem proves it yet again. It’s sexy, incredibly well acted and funny as hell. The cinematic duet is engrossing from the very start and they carry you through to the end with delicious anticipation.
If you've seen it on stage, it could potentially feel regurgitated or overdone but Polanski manages to focus our attention so narrowly and brightly on the subtleties of the characters that I could watch them all day.
Kids won’t like it but grandma will be seduced.
