Last week, Charlie Carver, well known for his roles on The Leftovers and Teen Wolf, told the world that he is gay via an extremely poignant Instagram post. Carver, 27, has played several gay characters on screen but had not commented on his own sexuality until now.
The actor wrote a heartfelt essay that was split in a series of five posts, each accompanied with a photo of the quote, “Be Who You Needed When You Were Younger.”
"As a young boy, I knew I wanted to be an actor. I knew I wanted to be a lot of things... It was around that age that I also knew, however abstractly, that I was different from some of the other boys in my grade," he wrote. "Over time, this abstract 'knowing' grew and articulated itself through a painful gestation marked by feelings of despair and alienation, ending in a climax of saying three words out loud: 'I am gay.'” – Charlie Carver said on his Instagram.
Carver’s former Teen Wolf cast mate, Tyler Posey, recently made an appearance on our show and had the opportunity to respond to Carver’s big announcement. Posey was at first surprised by the news, saying that he knew about Carver’s sexuality, but was unaware that he had officially come out of the closet. Not surprisingly, Posey had nothing but love to share for his former co-star. He also expressed his delight to see how it is getting easier for people to come out. “The other day, I was driving by these two kids wearing backpacks in high school, and they were holding hands – boys- and I loved it,” the actor said.“It was so cool.
