First Trailer Drops for 'Ghostbusters' Reboot

The all-female cast, just like their male counterparts 30 years ago, have to save New York City from slime-spewing ghosts.

Say it with me: Dunna na na na na na na, Dunna nunna nuh na na!  Dunna na na na na na na, GHOSTBUSTERS!

The first official trailer from the highly anticipated reboot of the 80’s classic hit the net this morning and by afternoon had racked up over 1.4 million views.  This time around, Ghostbusters stars Kristin Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.  It’s directed and co-written by Paul Feig, of Bridesmaids fame.

“These are four of the funniest people on the planet right now, and they are going to make you laugh whether you admit that they do or not,” Feig told the website BuzzFeed.

The trailer opens with an homage to the New York Public library opening scene in the original, showing a terrifying apparition vomiting green slime all over Wiig’s character, 'Dr. Erin Gilbert.'

And speaking of, it appears the chubby green Slimer from the first Ghostbusters is also back, along with the proton packs and the Ectomobile.  What you won’t see are any of the original cast.  As director Feig reportedly told a group gathered to screen the trailer on the Sony lot, this is a reboot, not a sequel.

“I didn’t like the idea of (the new Ghostbusters) being handed technology — ‘Here’s how to do this.’ I want to see it developed,” said Feig said. “We give them their own original origin story and play with that.”

Ghostbusters hits theaters July 15th.
