After a "short but fierce" battle with cancer, Lady Woodward reportedly passed away at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on Sunday morning. The long-time wife and sweetheart of international superstar Sir Tom Jones, met the singer at the young age of 12. The two grew up together outside of Pontypridd, Wales, and started dating at age 15. A year later they married.
This was Woodward's third time fighting the illness, having already had two pervious cancer scares.
Though long-lived, their marriage was known to be difficult. Jones has been candid about his affairs, admitting to being unfaithful on several occasions. The legendary singer has said that the affairs were never serious and that his wife was, "an unbelievable woman. She's the most important thing in my life. All the rest is just fun and games." Woodrow opted for a private life, staying out of her husband's limelight when he rose to fame with the hit song It's not unusual, in 1965. In his autobiography, Jones wrote he “never had that feeling for anyone else … I don’t think you can fall in love more than once”.
A statement on Jones' website stated that Woodward was "surrounded by her husband and loved ones," and that "she passed away peacefully." The couple had one son, Mark, age 59, who also acts as his father's manager.
The singer spoke of the groupies that permeated his life at the height of his fame and how the famous underwear throwing went from a fun, "sexy" thing to a real problem, when he appeared on Larry King Now!
