"Well, I’ve been married to him for 15 years and I know pretty well who he is," says Ted Cruz's wife Heidi.

Comedian and Comedy Central host Larry Wilmore had sides splitting at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner Saturday night.  But he kept returning to a series of jokes about Ted Cruz being the infamous Zodiac Killer.

“There is a joke going around the Internet that Ted Cruz is actually the Zodiac Killer,” Wilmore said, before an audience that included the President and some high profile members of the press corp.  Wilmore added, “Recently, Ted Cruz got a string of wins and endorsements. Then everybody remembered who Ted Cruz is — the Zodiac Killer.”

The jokes, based on a popular internet meme, soon took on a life of its own.  And even though Senator Cruz was born in 1970, in the middle of the killing spree… Mrs. Cruz felt she needed to assure the world her hubby was not, in fact, the Zodiac Killer.

“Well, I’ve been married to him for 15 years, and I know pretty well who he is, so it doesn’t bother me at all. There’s a lot of garbage out there,” Heidi Cruz told Yahoo News during a campaign swing through Indiana.

She continued, "It’s amazing how a lot of people are swayed by it… Part of it is, the news media is 24/7, and they don’t let up.”
