What Would You Ask Maria Menounos?
- Dec 17 '19
Larry King: You called yourself a Republican in the past, some people are angry at that. You voted for Trump, didn’t you?
Caitlyn Jenner: Mhm. I was a Republican, and he was our candidate.
Larry King: Has he disappointed you?
Caitlyn Jenner: In some cases he has, in some cases it’s been okay. Gorsuch, the Supreme Court, things like that, are I think the right move for our country. But yeah, he has disappointed me in some ways. This whole healthcare deal. If you’re on the conservative side, I want the federal government out of healthcare. I believe in a little thing called the Constitution, you know.
Larry King: But Trump has said in the past he was in favor of a single-payer health system.
Caitlyn Jenner: He did say a long time ago, yes he did, then he kind of switched, he’s become a typical politician.
Larry King: You said once that if Hillary Clinton became president, the country is over.
Caitlyn Jenner: Being conservative, the Republican Party has really disappointed me. I am not a supporter of the Republican Party, I lean that direction because I’m more conservative, so I do vote Republican. I am not the big supporter, although the media has had me as this big Trump supporter, I really am not. My loyalty is with my community. Okay, that’s what I’m fighting for.
Larry King: You met with the president?
Caitlyn Jenner: Talked to him on the phone during the campaign, and when that North Carolina bathroom bill was going down-
Larry King: But he supported you in that.
Caitlyn Jenner: Yes, he did. And I thought it would be okay. He brought up LGBT issues at the convention, which I thought was good, and talking to him on the phone, I was pretty optimistic. I think the best thing the Republican Party could do is do a better job when it comes to equality to all. Because the Democrats kind of own that space, and rightfully so, they have been better. The Republican Party, no.
