Larry King is joined by the great songwriter Carole Bayer Sager to discuss her new memoir, “They’re Playing Our Song.” The Grammy and Academy Award winning lyricist discusses her lifetime of collaborations with some of the most memorable musicians of all time. She remembers the difficulty of partnering with her ex-husband Burt Bacharach because of his complicated rhythms, and writing “You and Me (We Wanted It All)” for Frank Sinatra.
Then, Larry King asks the living legend about some of her most famous friendships. Sager happily reflects on throwing a birthday party for Elizabeth Taylor, which had A-listers like Bette Davis in attendance, and working with the Clinton campaign to write the 2016 anthem “Stronger Together.”
Finally, Larry King asks Carole Bayer Sager about some of the artists today that she would most like to work with. She speaks highly or artists like Adele, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars while acknowledging that music has undergone dramatic changes since her career first started. The songwriter admits that were she not in music, she would hopefully still be creating. The painter and author explains that so long as she can be creative, she can be happy.
