Rev Run's Sunday Suppers

Exemplary father of six, Rev Run finds his true joy in family, good friends and great food. But with four of their six children off on their own, Rev and Justine have a near empty nest and long for the days of a full table. Determined to get the gang back together for weekly Sunday dinners, they will use simple, heartfelt recipes to lure the kids (and some special guests) back to the table. Justine enlists Miley to help and learn the family recipe in an effort to pass it on for years to come.

Diggy is known as the Simmons' Family Food Police. When his farm-to-table ways show up forSunday Supper, Rev suggests that he walk-the-walk as he talks-the-talk. Rev and Justine do not mind the new guest helping to prepare a delicious dinner as long as Diggy is in-tow and ready to eat!

Justine's sister and niece are the guests of honor this week and no one could be more excited than Justine herself. Roger loves a great barbecue sandwich and when the meat is cooked low and slow and kissed with just the right amount of smoke, he rolls up his sleeves and digs in. Roger heads to The Barbecue Exchange for two sinfully delicious sandwiches packed with pulled pork and bacon. Then it is off to Papa KayJoe's BBQ in Centerville, Tennessee where pork, pickles, slaw and hot sauce are sandwiched between crispy corn cakes.

In the Carolinas, barbecue is not just a tradition; it is a way of life. Roger heads to North and South Carolina to visit a couple of old school restaurants that have upheld a long tradition of mouthwatering barbecue for several generations. At Sweatman's in Holly Hill, South Carolina, whole hogs are cooked low and slow and then pulled and chopped into juicy, meaty perfection. In North Carolina, Roger visits Stamey's Barbecue in Greensboro for their Lexington-style barbecue where succulent pork shoulders are chopped and piled high on a bun, kissed with vinegar sauce, and crowned with slaw.

  • Premiering Tuesday, June 17th at 8:00pmET/5:00pmPT - "Fiery Mexican Feast"

Roger loves exploring cuisines from around the world. Mexican food is a favorite because of its complex, earthy flavors and tradition of cooking over a wood fire. Roger meets Chef Johnny Hernandez in San Antonio, Texas and cooks regional Mexican dishes in the ultimate outdoor kitchen. It is a feast of lamb barbacoa cooked low and slow in a pit, branzino stuffed with aromatics, wrapped in banana leaves and cooked around coals, and fresh corn tortillas toasted on a clay griddle. It is the ultimate fiery Mexican feast.

  • Premiering Tuesday, June 24th at 8:00pmET/5:00pmPT - "Small Packages, Big Flavors"

Good things come in small packages and that is especially true when it comes to artisanal food makers. Roger searches the Gulf States for tasty foods kissed with smoke and fire that deliver big flavors. In Austin, Texas a family roasts coffee the old fashioned way: small batches over a roaring fire without any electricity. Roger savors a cup and also learns how they use coffee in Texas barbecue. Then it is off to LaPlace, Louisiana for amazing smoked sausages, and tasso.

Debi, Gabriele and the kids have never gone camping together as a family. Gabriele has always wanted to go, but it has taken a long time to convince Debi how fun it can be. Finally, Debi has agreed to give it a shot for just one night, so they pack up the car, the kids and Robert, and head upstate to a campground in the Catskills. Gabriele gets the fire started and makes a deliciousCampfire Flatbread. During the trip, they take in some local activities, before firing up the grill for the perfect camp-side stew, an Impruneta Peposo, with a tasty Farm Stand Salad.

One of Debi's oldest friends, Fab Five Freddy, has lived in Harlem for years and wants to show Debi and Gabriele some of his favorite haunts. They are leaving the girls behind today, so Debi and Gabriele whip up a Torta di Carote for them to have as an after-school snack. In Harlem, Freddy introduces them to chef and restaurateur Alexander Smalls, as they head to Alexander's apartment for a delicious dinner of Polenta Incanita with Pork Belly Cubes and Alexander's Black-Eyed Peas and Arugula Salad.  Tuscan soul food at its finest!

Family time is a priority to this clan, and Debi and Gabriele always make sure they each have quality time with their daughters. Debi and Giulia cook up a delicious breakfast Frittata, while Gabriele and Evelina head to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens for some father-daughter time. Debi has a full circle moment when she takes her daughters to her childhood home; and back in the kitchen, Debi and Gabriele make some family favorites, including Polenta Pasticciata and  Lentil Salad with Burrata

These days Gabriele's known for his cooking, but his other passion has always been music. Vegetables are the only ingredient in an award-winning restaurant run by a Buddhist monk in Seoul. Restaurant Takeover

  • Premiering Monday, June 2nd at 10:00pmET/7:00pmPT - "Portugril"

Churrasco is in Joe's blood: his mother and grandmother introduced him to the rich Portuguese culinary tradition that he feels is his duty to carry on in Canada. Portugril is his pride and joy and he has taken on a second full time job to keep it afloat. His daughter and restaurant manager Maria offers up the $15K of her savings in order to give Portugril the overhaul it needs. With Joe's family legacy and the livelihood of his daughter and infant granddaughter on the line, Chef Corbin Tomaszeski and designer Paula Velez will try to save his failing restaurant.

When Sam bought Classico, it was a busy restaurant and he thought this would be a turn-key operation, but this used-and-abused Italian joint is completely missing the mark. Passionate about the industry but stressed out beyond belief, Sam makes a plea for his lifestyle: he needs ChefAndrea Nicholson and designer Montana Burnett to help to make Classico a success so he can have the balance in work and life he has always wanted.

When Simply Thai opened ten years ago, owner Ooy prided herself on being the first Asian restaurant in the neighborhood. Since then, the area's dining and nightlife scene has exploded as Simply Thai has become just like any other run-down Thai place in the city. Chef Corbin Tomaszeskiand designer Cheryl Torrenueva will try to get Ooy to embrace change. In a last ditch effort to save her restaurant, will this traditional owner be pushed too far?

  • Premiering Monday, June 23rd at 10:00pmET/7:00pmPT - "Marky and Sparky's"

Is there room for an outsider in this family business? A third generation butcher, Frank opened his deli as a side business for his wife Mirella to run. Offering to-go soups and sandwiches, the deli goes largely overlooked, perhaps because it does not even have a sign! Frank feels that the deli could use a new player, in the form of BBQ expert and long-time customer Marcus. Restaurant Takeover sends in Chef Corbin Tomaszeski and designer Alison Milne to take this restaurant in a new direction. Will Mirella choose to share her dream, or lose it altogether?

 

Road Trip with G. Garvin

  • Premiering Wednesday, June 4th at 9:00pmET/6:00pmPT - "Miami"

G. Garvin hits Miami, Fla., and heads to Crackers where he cooks up tender maple-glazed pork chops with a side of buttery sweet potato mash. Then he heads downtown to Batch Gastropub, for some of the best pork belly in town and a taste of their special blended cocktails. G. wraps things up in Coral Gables at Swine to taste their famous dish, the Hoppin' Jack Rabbit, and gets a lesson in how to make a Miami favorite; key lime pie.

  • Premiering Wednesday, June 11th at 9:00pmET/6:00pmPT - "Ann Arbor"

G. Garvin heads west for a taste of the south in Ann Arbor, MI. The first stop is Grange Kitchen & Bar, a local eatery that is serving up southern fried specialties like fried pig head and deep fried apple pie. Then it is off to Zingerman's Roadhouse, where they combine two southern classics in one with their fried chicken mac n' cheese. G. wraps things up at Ron's Road House to taste some of their deliciously smoked BBQ sandwiches and sides.

  • Premiering Wednesday, June 18th at 9:00pmET/6:00pmPT - "Best of New York"

On this road trip, G. Garvin sets off to find some of the best southern-inspired food the Empire State has to offer. First we head to Harlem, where Chef Ayala Donchin serves up decadent desserts at Evelyn's Kitchen. Next, we head to Peaches in Brooklyn where they take southern hospitality to a whole new level. Mouthwatering dishes like the black skillet chicken are seared and seasoned to perfection. G. wraps up his trip at the Rye Roadhouse for some authentic Cajun specialties including the popular blackened alligator.

  • Premiering Wednesday, June 25th at 9:00pmET/6:00pmPT - "Ft. Lauderdale"

G. Garvin travels to Ft. Lauderdale on a mission that only he can accomplish. His first stop is Hot & Soul where husband-and-wife team Mike and Christy are serving up southern comfort specialties with a twist, like their Gnaughty Gnocchi with oxtail. Then at Southern Swank, G. heads into the kitchen and learns how to make their famous smoked beer can chicken. Later G. hits the high seas with Captain Jay and cooks up the catch of the day: tile fish over creamy cheesy grits.
