The first openly gay male athlete playing a pro sport in the United States! Twenty-six year old Soccer player Robbie Rogers played for LA Galaxy, receiving a standing ovation when he stepped onto the field, said that he didn’t believe that he could pursue a career as an openly gay soccer player. Rogers’ fears were lessened as he trained with LA Galaxy, and tweeted of his debut: “I won’t ever forget tonight.”
