Illinois Officer’s September Death Resulting in Intense Manhunt Ruled Suicide

After a massive manhunt for a Chicago cop killer, investigators have revealed the officer'd death was a suicide. 

The Lake County sheriff's department revealed Wednesday Lt. Charles Joseph Glineiwicz died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on September 1st. According to the department, his death was "A carefully planned suicide… this staged suicide was the end result of extensive criminal acts that Gliniewicz had been committing.”

The whole thing started with a call the morning of September 1st. Glineiwicz sent word over his radio that he was pursuing 3 suspects. Backup arrived about 10 minutes later, but the officer was already dead with a gunshot wound to his torso. 

After an intense investigation, it was revealed the officer had apparently been stealing for years from the department's youth program.
