Airbnb's Next Destination? Cuba

The latest hotspot for the popular peer-to-peer house rental service is Cuba.

For more than 50 years, Cuba has been off-limits to the average American traveler and those restrictions have prevented U.S. -based businesses from expanding in the Caribbean nation. But since President Obama lifted the strict travel restrictions to Cuba earlier this year, more and more tourists are discovering the country -- and they need places to stay!

That's where Airbnb comes in, as the house sharing startup announced today that they have opened up the service to housing providers in Cuba and from a brief look at the site, it seems there are more than a few options available. From a 'casa colonial' to expansive villas and everything in between, Airbnb aims to improve the 'where to stay' search for newcomers to Cuba. But the BBC reports the benefits are currently only for U.S. travelers. Anyone trying to access Airbnb's Cuba offerings from outside the U.S. is greeted with an alert and the option to add properties to a wishlist, but not to book them.
