Poll Finds That Most Americans Want Politicians to Know What the Hell They’re Voting On

87% of Americans (92% of Democrats, 90% of Republicans, and 79% of Independents) think that our politicians should posses “a basic understanding of the science informing public policy issues.” That’s great! Science is important, everybody should know a little about it, even if you hate it, or even if you’re a politician.

But at the same time, the Top Three Republicans in the 2016 Presidential Race -- Donald Trump, Dr. Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina (no amount of science could ever answer why those three are leading) -- DO NOT BELIEVE IN SCIENCE. Well, maybe not ALL science, but they’ve all three made it clear that they refuse to listen to the facts on climate change.

Here’s an actual unedited Trump Tweet:

[note: please ignore that “Follow” button as it is just for show]

Yes, the Chinese are so good at science that they invented a way to destroy the planet in such a way that would appear to the scientific braintrust of the world that it was actually being done by the cars, factories and emissions of mankind. Those dastardly Chinese people!

How about Dr. Ben Carson on those so-called “facts”:

“I know there are a lot of people who say ‘overwhelming science,’ but then when you ask them to show the overwhelming science, they never can show it…There is no overwhelming science that the things that are going on are man-caused and not naturally caused. Gimme a break.”

All you have to do is open Google and search “proof of climate change”, and you’ll be absolutely overwhelmed by science, Dr. Carson. I really shouldn’t be explaining scientific research to you. You allegedly graduated from medical school and from Yale with a B.A. in B.S.

Lastly, here’s Carly “Personality” Fiorina on the global push for renewable energy:

“Do we really think the Chinese are going to follow our lead on this? No, because they’re focused on their own economic self interest.”

Uh, yes. The Chinese are following us, because they’ve lapped us on the track, and they are coming up behind to lap us again! They passed the Renewable Energy Law in 2005! That was ten years ago and they’ve employed over 1.5 million people, generating $17 billion. “In 2009 alone, an estimated 300,000 jobs were created.” The GOP argues for the Keystone-XL Pipeline, which would only create 35 permanent jobs (with 42,000 temporary).

It warms my heart to know that 87% of you BELIEVE that politicians should know about science, but when you also say you’d vote for the same people, who do everything in their power to discredit science and the scientists who are doing it, I don’t buy for a minute that this is what you want.

Or! You also don’t believe in science and facts and research and want the ill-informed asshole with the best hair to lead you into a desolate, Mad Maxian apocalypse.
