Officer Jeremy Dear was fired last year for not having his lapel camera on when he shot and killed a 19-year-old girl is going to be reinstated
Last year, Officer Jeremy Dear shot and killed a 19-year-old girl after chasing her for allegedly stealing car. Although he was cleared of that shooting, the police chief decided to fire Dear for repeatedly not having his lapel camera on during his encounters with the public as well as during the shooting. Dear said his camera accidentally unplugged from the battery before the chase started.
Now, Officer Dear has been reinstated after the cities personnel board voted 3-2 to allow him to return to his position. The city's personnel board also agreed that Dear’s punishment should be a 90-day suspension. The city is appealing the decision to the local courts and does not take force until court action is concluded.
Do you think Officer Jeremy Dear deserves to be reinstated? Why or why not?
