The Governor sounds off on the dramatic turn of events after Turkey shot down a Russian warplane near the Turkish-Syrian border. Turkey said the plane violated Turkey’s airspace.  In response, Russian President stated that the incident “respresents a stab in the back by the terrorists’ accomplices.”

MOSCOW, RUSSIA - NOVEMBER 22: Just two days ago,Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan (R) and Russian President Vladimir Putin (L) arrived to the High-Level Russian-Turkish Cooperation Council meeting in the Konstantin Palace in Saint Petersburg, Russia.  The two leaders had discussed economic development and cooperation, with the Syrian Crisis at the top of the agenda.   (Photo by Sasha Mordovets/Getty Images)

Turkey definitely overreacted.

A minor discretion took place and I do not think it required a plane to be shot down.  What was the point of shooting it down?  Those are very drastic measures.

Now the entire world is on the brink of war over airspace.  Pick up the phone.  Talk to Putin. But don’t shoot down the plane.

The plane was 1 km -- that’s not even a mile -- into Syria when it went down.  To put the world on edge over 1 km of airspace?  Especially in a combat zone.  I think this is too drastic.

Put it this way: I wouldn’t have pulled the trigger. I would’ve tailed them, filed a report, a brought the issue forward in an international forum.
