The people have spoken. It's time to reform the NSA.

Last week, bipartisan legislation was introduced to Congress to repeal the USA PATRIOT Act. For those of you who need a refresher, the USA PATRIOT Act, which stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism, was passed in 2001 after the September 11 terrorist attacks to give law enforcement agencies the power to bring terrorists to justice through mass surveillance.

But we now know the PATRIOT Act has given the National Security Agency free reign to spy on American citizens who are not suspected of terrorism. John Oliver and Edward Snowden discussed this topic, or the topic of how the NSA might be holding on to your dick pics, in a recent interview. The ridiculous exchange was a hilarious way to get an important message out to the masses, as many American citizens shockingly still don't know what the NSA is or what it does, or even who Edward Snowden is.

The new legislation, officially titled the Surveillance State Repeal Act, is aimed at getting rid of the PATRIOT Act all together, while also destroying information collected by the NSA under it like your dick pics, and making sure the government can't force technology manufacturers to build mechanisms that allow them to bypass encryption or privacy capabilities, protect whistleblowers, and prevent persons from being surveyed without a warrant.

If passed, the Surveillance State Repeal Act will be the largest legislative check against the NSA.
