A Maryland couple investigated for neglect after letting their two young children walk home alone from local parks have been cleared in one of two casesChild Protective Services (CPS) began an investigation into Danielle and Alexander Meitiv back in December after a police officer stopped the couple's children, ages 6 and 10, about halfway through a mile walk home in Silver Spring.

In my day, it would be laughable.

When I was a kid, we use to walk anywhere we wanted to go when we wanted to go. There were no problems. I used to walk 20-something blocks to school everyday and back. So when I think about kids walking a mile to go somewhere and getting picked up by the police for doing just that, it astounds me.

"Parents are the ones that are in charge of their kids."

I think they are overreaching with this case. Are we really at that point in society where kids aren’t allowed to leave their property anymore? Parents are the ones that are in charge of their kids. If they want to let their children walk a mile to any place they know to be safe, it’s their choice. It shouldn’t be called child neglect. If anything, it’s exercise!
