Two Florida parents were hit with felony neglect charges after their 11-year-old son was reportedly playing alone in the backyard for 90 minutes.
I was a latchkey kid. When I left every morning, my parents had already left for work so I had to get myself to school. I got home before either of them many times. I would change my clothes and go back to the schoolyard to play for hours before dinner. Every kid in my neighborhood did it and there was never an issue.
What the hell is going on in our country when kids are not allowed to be alone anymore! They have to be supervised 24/7 now? A kid shooting hoops in his own yard is not cause for felony child abuse charges. Is one of them supposed to quit their job so they could be home when he gets there?
We’re supposed to be a country of freedom. But when you hear about things like this, it really makes you wonder how ‘free’ we really are. Let’s let the parents do their job and stop letting the government try and raise your kids.
