The two detainees, Salem Abdu Salam Ghereby and Omar Khalif Mohammed Abu Baker Mahjour Umar,  were held without charge at Gitmo since 2002.  According to the New York Times, the Pentagon alleges both served as explosives trainers for the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group.  The NY Times states that the LIFG is an organization of fighters who pledged to overthrow former Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi.  Yet the organization was removed from the U.S. government's list of foreign terrorist organizations in 2015.

We don’t even know why these people have been locked up in the first place.  We don’t know if they’re our enemies or not, because it’s never been proven in a court of law.

In other words, we’ve had these two men locked up since 2002 for no reason.  That’s the United States of today.

If we’re emptying the prison at Guantanamo, I think there should be a list stating who’s being released and where they’re headed.  To me, it’s simple: we should know who’s left there, what they’ve been charged with (or not charged with), why they’re being released, why they’ve never had a fair trial, and where they’ll be sent to and why.

The reason they won’t try them is because they knew they wouldn’t come up with conviction in the first place.  That’s how I view it.

Take Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. He confessed to his participation in 9/11, but none of it could be used in court because they tortured him. If they torture you, anything you say doesn’t carry any weight in the court of law in this country.  They would have to drum up some proof to go along with his confession.  I don’t think they had it, otherwise we would’ve seen a fair trial.

You can bet if these guys weren’t terrorists before, they certainly will be now. If you’re locked-up and innocent, you’re not going to appreciate the people who locked you up for 15 years.  You need to try these detainees.  If you convict them, keep them in prison. If you don’t, they go free.  It’s not that complicated.

Everybody deserves their day in court.  This is the United States of America, allegedly.
