Richard Overton, one of our country’s oldest living World War II veterans, is enjoying his birthday by continuing to tend to his lawn, and indulging in some whiskey and small cigars.

“I smoke at least 12 Tampa Sweet cigars a day,” said Mr. Overton, who lives in Austin, Texas.

The Wall Street Journal reports that, as Overton’s birthday nears on May 11th, Steve Adler, mayor of Austin joined about a hundred others at the east Austin home of Helen Elliot, a neighbor of Mr. Overton’s for a party celebrating the vet.The party’s theme: “Mighty Fine at 109.”

Overton’s future goals? He told the Journal, “I just gotta live.”

We salute you Mr. Overton!Thank you for your service.
