The Supreme Court Has Ruled That Gay Marriage Is Legal in All States
The Supreme Court ruled that the Constitution guarantees the right of same-sex couples to marry, invalidating gay marriage bans nationwide.
Penned by Justice Anthony Kennedy, the 5-4 opinion in Obergefell v. Hodges concluded that the Fourteenth Amendment requires states to allow same-sex couples to marry. "[T]he reasons marriage is fundamental under the Constitution apply with equal force to same-sex couples," Kennedy wrote.
Justice Kennedy's majority opinion falls in line with what Jesse has been saying all along, “All these people that are opposed to gay marriage, how are they affected? I’ve been married 38 years now. If two gay people down the street want to get married how does that affect me? It doesn’t! It has no effect on me at all.[…] Gay marriage is simple; it falls under equality under the law.All of us must be treated the same by government regardless of anything else.”
