Jesse Ventura's Off The Grid:Vigilant News
End the Cuban Embargo
IN HIS OWN WORDS: Jesse Ventura explains why the Cuban embargo must be lifted jwplayer. jwplayer("sound"). flashplayer: "https://www. file: "https://s3. height: 25, width: 300, controlbar: "bottom" }); A few weeks ago, a nonpartisan survey discovered that the majority of Americans nationwide are ready for a policy shift when it comes to the Cuban embargo. The whole notion of passing a law to ban all forms of commerce, tourism, and communication with one country is like saying if we ignore them then they don't exist. Cuba is not the only socialist country in the world. Whether a country has a form of socialized healthcare like Canada or whether a communist party rules the government like China - it doesn't matter. As of October 2013, our total outstanding debt with China is $1. So what does our government have against the Cubans? When I was governor, I made it a point to visit Cuba. The embargo is doing nothing to remove President Castro. Peace, Gov. #StayVigilant
Wrestling and Politics
MANY of my wrestling fans have asked me over the years, "Governor, what was it like working with Vince McMahon? People also ask me what I liked doing better, wrestling or commentating, and honestly, I enjoyed both but for different reasons. People can say what they want about pro-wrestling - that it's fake or whatever - but at one point in my career I actually wrestled 63 days in a row and let me tell you, that hurts. When I switched to being a commentator, it was the right time. I'll leave you with something to think about: politics is like pro-wrestling. Peace, Gov. #StayVigilant
Be a Vigilant Citizen Today
IN HIS OWN WORDS: Jesse Ventura explains the significance of The Day We Fight Back jwplayer. jwplayer("sound"). flashplayer: "https://www. file: "https://s3. height: 25, width: 300, controlbar: "bottom" }); REMEMBER when we called our representatives and told them not to go into Syria? When it comes right down to it, every voice counts. Over 6,000 web-based companies and other organizations, including Reddit, Imgur, Tumblr, Mozilla, and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). Physical protests are planned in 15 countries. Over 100,000 people signed an international petition opposing mass surveillance within a few hours of its launch. Google. As of 4:00 pm Eastern time today, over 51,000 calls were made and over 100,000 emails were sent to Congress. If you're looking to get involved, you still have time to act. Congress is considering two major bills: The USA Freedom Act curtails NSA surveillance abuses. The FISA Improvements Act attempts to legalize bulk data collection of phone records. Your job as an American citizen is to hold your politicians' feet to the fire and tell Congress which bill to vote for. If you don't know who your representatives are, go to https://thedaywefightback. Nixon was impeached for Watergate - he wiretapped ONE office. Tell me again, why do we allow the NSA to wiretap our ENTIRE nation? I keep saying #StayVigilant - but do you know what that means? We have a chance to work together to turn our country around today. This is what Edward Snowden risked his life for.
Stop Mass Surveillance #StoptheNSA
IN a democracy, the people are the bosses. There have been many revolutions in our country -- all achieved through grassroots movements and non-violent protests such as: women's suffrage, civil rights, child-labor laws, fair wages, health and safety hazards, the list goes on and on. These are battles that We the People fought by ourselves, for ourselves, without resorting to violence. Want a more recent example? Remember when we all called Congress and told them no, we will not go into Syria? If you want to put a stop to mass surveillance, there’s an international movement going on all day tomorrow called The Day We Fight Back. You have an entire day to harass your representatives until they oppose the FISA Improvements Act and support the USA Freedom Act, a piece of legislation that is the first step in reining in the NSA. In January 2012, the SOPA and PIPA censorship legislation was defeated with the largest internet protest in history. Folks, tomorrow is just the beginning. If you want to send a message to DemoCRIPs and ReBLOODlicans, who have passed bills like the Patriot Act and Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, then join me tomorrow in telling them exactly how you feel. Over 53 percent of Americans disapprove of the NSA. One simple way to let the government know that you've caught on is to put this disclosure at the bottom of your email signature: More than 4,500 websites including Reddit and Tumblr are posting special banners and ads to urge people to call or email their members of Congress. There is power in numbers. Peace, Gov. #StayVigilant
What I really think about Drones
It’s hilarious watching the mainstream news media not realize when I’m being sarcastic. In case you missed it, I was on CNBC’s Closing Bell on Tuesday night to talk about my new show “Off The Grid” and why I choose to live off the grid. If you've been watching my show, then you already know that I did a whole episode on my reasons for living off the grid on Wednesday: But I decided to have a little fun with CNBC, and I definitely left them speechless, when I told them I’m off the grid so the drones won’t find me. You can watch that magic happen here (notice how Kevin O'Leary from Shark Tank got my sense of humor but no one else did): Now hundreds of news articles have circulated online – stating this as my only reason for going “off the grid. Just google “Jesse Ventura drones” to find hundreds more on Politico, Huffington Post, The Drudge Report, Salon -- the list goes on and on. Out of everything I said during the interview, the mainstream media took the one line I said in jest and turned it into fact. Well, fine then. Drones are a serious issue and I don’t think enough people are talking about the implications drones can have on all of us. For starters: Drones invade our privacy. They're another way for the government to treat the American people like terror threats. Drones give a false sense of security and take away our freedom and our rights. The government has no right to spy on us, end of story. What do you think about drones? Until next time, as always, #StayVigilant
Aren't You Tired of Empty Suits?
IN HIS OWN WORDS: Jesse Ventura on DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans jwplayer. jwplayer("sound"). flashplayer: "https://www. file: "https://s3. height: 25, width: 300, controlbar: "bottom" }); In the words of the late great Pete Seeger, “Songs won’t save the planet, but neither will books or speeches. Words are meant to inspire, but you can’t rely on them alone to bring about change. Talk is cheap. Take President Obama’s State of the Union address, for example. Obama ran on change. Who are you really voting for when you vote for a Democrat or a Republican? It doesn’t matter if a candidate is pro-choice or anti-abortion because the same people who backed him also backed his opponent. Send a message to these DemoCRIPS and ReBLOODlicans. Aren’t you tired of empty suits and sellouts? We keep saying enough is enough, but guess what? Actions speak louder than words. Peace, Gov. #StayVigilant
Racism in the NFL
"The name honors the heritage of the Native Americans, so don't take it literally. "But it's just a mascot, don't be so sensitive. "That name is a part of the proud tradition of the NFL, so as long as there's football, there will be the Washington R*dskins. Here's another example of the majority deciding for the minority what their rights are. The majority has decided the minority group doesn't deserve to be heard, their opinion doesn't matter, and the answer from the majority remains: "tough, just deal with it. Native Americans make up less than 1 percent of the American population. Have you ever met a Native American? I've met many, many Native Americans. If the R*dskins isn't derogatory, then why have several national publications refused to print that word in their sports section? Even Washington D. The truth of the matter is, in the 1800s, the word went from being a negative term to something extremely hateful. If you recall something called "The Trail of Tears" - where Native Americans were forced out of their homes in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Florida and Tennessee because the white settlers and the United States government wanted that land to grow crops and cotton fields? In 1830, tens of thousands of Native Americans walked from the southern states to Oklahoma without supplies. Just as the N word reminds people of slavery, the R word reminds the Native Americans of a time when they were abused, mistreated, and afraid for their very lives. It didn't matter if they learned how to read or how to write or how to speak in perfect English. So the next time someone wants to honor the Native American people in the NFL, maybe the NFL should consult some tribal leaders first instead of slapping a racial slur across every helmet and jersey. By the way - it's not one or two Native Americans saying it's a racist slur - there are entire tribes protesting the R name across the country.
Obama stole my line in SOTU last night!
IN HIS OWN WORDS: Jesse's response to Obama's State of the Union address jwplayer. jwplayer("sound"). flashplayer: "https://www. file: "https://s3. height: 25, width: 300, controlbar: "bottom" }); Hey, Mr. You know, when I was in office - both as a mayor and a governor - I NEVER used a prepared speech. When you speak to the people who elected you, what you say should come from the heart, not from a speechwriter. Obama not only needed a script last night to address the country, he needed to steal the best line from me! That's right. "We have to remain vigilant. Gee, where have you heard that before? Makes you wonder where he stole the rest of his speech from, doesn't it? #StayVigilant
