PoliticKING goes to Politicon!

2 Days, 12 Rooms, Lots of Buzz!Los Angeles hosted it's first annual political convention, "Politicon" last month!

WHAT IS POLITICON?

Imagine Comic-con.Now imagine a Political Convention. Now imagine they had a baby.Well, it's kind of like that... Politicon is a non partisan event for politics and entertainment.

WHAT HAPPENED AT POLITICON?

Panels, Debates, TV & Movie screenings, Live Radio, Podcasts, Comedy Shows, Q&A’s, Book Readings, Interviews, Meet & Greets, Art Exhibitions, Music Performances.

They have over 12 rooms ranging from 50 seaters to 3500 capacity at the downtown Los Angeles convention center. The organizers were programming the event like a music festival with various events happening at the same time.

It’s up to you to pick your events – maybe a discussion between Newt Gingrich and David Axelrod or a Q&A with James Carville after a screening of the movie ‘The War Room’. Or watch Hugh Hewitt chat live on his radio show with his special guests.

WHY START POLITICON?

The mix of politics and entertainment is everywhere, from the new season of Veep and House Of Cards, to a new political TV network, or political biography.

The audience for Politicon came from all sides of the political spectrum.

They have created a platform for media of all types to present their own events: maybe a panel of fictional presidents, or a meeting of great minds for a debate on a difficult subject, to a a display of photography of political leaders.

WHERE WAS IT?

ENTERTAIN DEMOCRACY!

I'd rather WHAT?!That's right. This nifty tank was part of a set up at Politicon from a group known as "Do Right! IND."!

If you are still feeling the Veterans Day Spirit (and you should!), look into this great organization:

They work to entertain veterans with a good time for a great cause.  From the moment guests enter the event, they will be treated to something special.Their goal is to recreate the magic of the Hollywood Canteen that operated during the 1940’s as a club offering dancing, drinks and entertainment for servicemen, usually on their way overseas.  The evening will feature dancing Pin-Ups, Comedy, Variety Acts, Soulful Lounge singers, raffle-ticket selling beauties and more than a few surprises!  With entertainment & atmosphere around every turn, guests will feel like they stepped into another era.

At every show they donate 50% of their tickets back to veterans so they can attend for free.  The remainder of the tickets are sold to help cover the cost of touring.  They keep ticket prices low, because it is important for them to bring together the civilian and veteran communities.  20% of all proceeds goes back to the award-winning nonprofit Pin-Ups for Vets to support their work with Hospitalized Veterans and Deployed Troops.  You can find out more by visiting: www.dorightind.com !

There were tons of talks, panels, screenings, and art exhibits, too!  Check out some of the work below!
