NRA attorney says gun control laws create “accidental felons”

“People become accidental felons because the law becomes so complicated.”

Prominent NRA attorney Chuck Michel came on Larry King Now to discuss why he believes many gun control laws are ineffective.

“The NRA has often worked with legislators to pass laws that will do something to prohibit violent crime,” Michel said. “The reason our gun violence is going down is because of things like 3 strikes,” he added.

Michel insisted that gun control laws do not, in fact, lower gun violence rates in America. “Criminal laws work. Gun control laws typically don’t. They’re based on a false premise that somehow if you pass a law, the bad guys won’t be able to get guns,” Michel said.

He added that, “All that really happens, especially in California, is people become accidental felons because the law becomes so complicated. They don’t know what’s legal and what’s not.”
