Many legitimate companies are aggressively using social media like Twitter and Facebook as a customer service platform. Tweet to Starbucks that your app isn’t working, and you may get a response. Just be careful about responding to that message with any personal details. Here’s where it gets really dangerous. Scammers and hackers are creating fake accounts and watching for someone to complain or raise an issue with a legitimate company.
The fake account then swoops in and responds to the user …. telling them to log in to a website. The catch? That’s a fake website owned by the scammer and they will steal any information you give them.
