The situation I found myself in as a new captain with a new untested boat and a rookie crew turned out to be more of a challenge than I anticipated. I now have a newfound respect for the captains I have worked for in the past.
The responsibilities are endless as lives and fortunes are on the line. My life on land revolves around the boat and the weather, my days are spent on maintenance and my nights doing weather research and coordinating crew and departure days. Sometimes I think I was better off just showing up with my gear, shooting fish and going home. Working for another captain was way easier. But then I remember...I hate taking orders!!
