Shawn King: How big of a problem is wrongful conviction?
Peter Neufeld: Wrongful conviction is a huge problem, not just in the United States but all over the world. Many of the methods that are used by police in investigations and by courts in adjudications are simply unreliable, and so it’s not that difficult to get the wrong result. So our role is not only to free the innocent but also to deconstruct the cases, find out what are the causes of wrongful convictions, and then look for systemic reforms to improve it to reduce the risk of future wrongful convictions.
