Off The Grid: Will A Candidate Stand Up Against Police Misconduct?

When it comes to police misconduct, We the People sure do pay the price:

1. Our tax dollars fund the police departments. This includes salaries, training, and supplies/gear like Tasers.

2. When police misconduct occurs, there's an investigation, court proceedings, and in many instances lawsuit rewards. All of which are paid for by tax dollars.

3. Then there's the victim - who pays dearly in legal fees, if not hospital fees.

4. And the police who committed the crime? They typically get a paid suspension. Essentially, our tax dollars pay for the officer to go on vacation, and keep his job. Some punishment, huh? 

According to The Huffington Post, here's what police misconduct cases are costing taxpayers in big cities across the nation:

• Boston: $36 million between 2005 and 2015.
• Chicago: $521 million between 2004 and 2014
• Cleveland: $8.2 million between 2004 and 2014
• Dallas: $6.6 million between 2011 and 2014 
• Denver: ~$12 million since 2011 
• Los Angeles: ~$101 million between 2002 and 2011 
• Minneapolis: $9.3 million between 2011 and 2014 
• New York City: $348 million between 2006 and 2011 
• Oakland: $74 million between 1990 and 2014 
• Philadelphia: ~$40 million between 2009 and 2014
