Indiana Governor, Mike Pence, may have accidentally opened the door to the first church of cannabis.

Indiana's new Religious Freedom Restoration Act gives businesses and individuals the right to deny service to anyone who allegedly offends their religious beliefs. But could it have opened the door to getting away with doing something illegal for religious reasons--like smoking weed?

According to Raw Story

"Indiana attorney and political commentator, Abdul-Hakim Shabazz, says Indiana legislators, in their haste to protect the religious values and practices of their constituents, may have unwittingly put the state in an awkward position with those who profess to smoke pot as a religious sacrament. Shabazz pointed out that it is still illegal to smoke pot in Indiana, but would argue that under RFRA, as long as you can show that reefer is part of your religious practices, you got a pretty good shot of getting off scot-free.”

One Indiana Libertarian took advantage of the new law and its potential loophole. Bill Levin, who once ran for Indiana state office, filed official paperwork for the First Church of Cannabis Inc. and got its status approved. He says,

"Now we begin to accomplish our goals of Love, Understanding, and Good Health."

It looks like Bill made lemonade out of a bad religious objection law. He and the First Church of Cannabis are taking donations in the amount of $4.20 to help launch the non-profit church.
