Anonymous is fighting the Islamic State one social media account at a time via OpISIS. The hackers have been wiping suspected members of the terrorist group completely off the Internet by deleting associated Facebook, Twitter, and email accounts and then exposing the suspects publicly so they cannot hide. Under the operative, Anonymous hopes to deter the Islamic State from continued use of social media as means to recruit, spread propaganda, and distribute videos of beheadings and other violence.
Anonymous released a video featuring one Anon, disguised by a signature Guy Fawkes mask, telling the world about the OpISIS mission. In summary, the Anon clarifies that they support all ethnic groups, including Muslims. The masked figure says,
"Greetings citizens of the world. We are Muslims, Christians, Jews, hacktivists, agents, spies, students, administrators, workers, clerks, unemployed, rich, poor, young, old, gay or straight. We come from all races, countries, religions, and ethnicities, united as one. We are Anonymous."
The Anon continues by saying,"Remember, the terrorists that are calling themselves the Islamic State--ISIS--are not Muslims." He then ends the video with a warning:
"Isis, We will hunt you, take down your sites, accounts, emails, and expose you. From now on, there [will be] no safe place for you online – you will be treated like a virus, and we are the cure. We own the Internet now."
